1984 360 RAW Water Pump

Post by shade2u2 »

I believe that my water pump was rebuilt about 4 years ago by the previous owner. I have the check the paperwork in the boat to confirm when but I know it was done.
How frequently should these be rebuilt? Thought I might add one more thing to my list for this year.
Is it a Sherwood pump? Where can I get a kit?
How involved is the rebuild? I've done impellers on I/O's which was pretty simple.
Thank you for your help.
4/6/17 - 4PM - edited to clarify that it is the Raw Water pump that I'm asking about... Sorry if I confused anyone...

Rebuild frequency depends on wear. But In my boat's nearly 20 yr association with me, only one pump had to be replaced, neither was rebuilt. They are sturdy critters. Mine was Sherwood

Good to know.
Do you keep spare impeller?
Which one fits my 84? G7B Sherwood pump?

I kept a spare everything on mine!

Strongly recommend NOT rebuilding these pumps. The kit costs about half of what a new pump runs, is a dog to do, and can leak water into the bearing (ruining it) if your work is not perfect.

Jeff,
You are referring to the raw water pump - if I'm describing it right? Not even the impeller?

I can speak for JP here...he does not refer to the impeller but rather the guts beyond that. Impellers are on the easy to replace scale of things.

I figured the impeller should be replaced periodically and should be that difficult. I have done them on my previous I/O's. I was hoping to find the part number for the impeller (& gaskets I assume). I guess that I really confused things by saying "rebuild". Sorry about that.

An impeller replacement is not a bad replacement job. Rebuilding the entire pump with its bearings and mechanical seal is another issue!

If you need a pump rebuilt or repaired, I highly recommend www.depcopump.com out of Clearwater, Fla. I shipped my 2 Sherwood pumps and 1 was repairable the other they had in stock, easy to work with and fair prices.
