39 Sedan purchase & transport

Post by shade2u2 »

I'm excited to have signed a purchase agreement on a 1986 39 Sedan BigM that is currently stored inside in Algonac,MI. It is pending survey and sea trial (in April).
The marina where it sits may not be able to launch it for me until June. I am now starting to work on haul out, bridge prep, transport and then a yard to take delivery and launch on the Ohio River. I'm considering running the boat on the water to the Port Clinton OH which would allow me to learn about the boat on a nice cruise. Then haul it out there and prep it for transport pick up. I assume that I would save on road transport by keeping everything within Ohio.

I plan to do the bridge removal and re-install( with help). Any advice?
I did find another thread about net wt & transport that I'm reading over.

Anyone have transport recommendations?

I also started a question regarding surveyors elsewhere. Thank you for any help there also.

Thank you all.
John

Congratulations, hope the deal goes as planned. I think you'll love the bigger boat. I have a 37'. The previous owner of mine transported over land from the Chicago area, to Lake Erie. Shipping invoice stated a weight of 16,500 lbs. Bridge had to be removed of course, I think the captains chair pedestal had to be removed as well. Is she a double cabin? I dock in the Port Clinton area if you need help when the time comes.

Jim,
We are looking forward to the space and amenities. BigM :D
It is a Sedan bridge - no aft cabin. That is what I have been looking for for a few years but there appears to be many more aft cabins than sedans. I'm guessing around 17-18,000 lbs. I'd like to get a actual weight if a lift I use has scale capabilities.

I may use Shrock's Marina in Marble Head only because that's where my last boat came from. I haven't talked to them yet. I certainly appreciate your offer. I'll see how things come together.

Bridge removal advice from postings here over the years: Mark/label every blessed wire -both sides, of course. Some have described tying it down tight on a carpeted foredeck.

The flybridge loaded toward the bow looks precarious...

Does anyone know the height measurement from the top of the main cabin (w/flybridge off) down to the prop tips (lowest point)?

The leading edge of the top, of the Plex-glas windscreen, the highest point while on the trailer, mine is 15'1", that with the props roughly 12" off the pavement.

So I wonder if I removed the props, how much lower could I get the boat on a hydraulic transport trailer? could I get down to around 14' without removing the flybridge...???
