Gangplank for beaching

Post by balthaus »

What are y'all using as a gangplank?
We will be on the Ohio River and beaching on the islands and banks.
We have a dog so a gangplank would be the ideal situation.
Our 32 Sedan Bridge has a pulpit.

Our '88 32' sedan has a ladder that attaches to a couple of intelocking fittings on the bow on the forward port side next to the pulpit. The ladder has an extension that folds down and rests against the hull. We had to replace the rubber ends of that support which had degraded over time and I used ends off shower curtain rods that worked fine. We still would have to step over or crawl under rails to get to the ladder. I'm guessing you'd have the same issue either with some sort of gangplank or ladder off the pulpit.

I've seen a folding ladder that extends off the bow of some other glass boats which would look more convenient. A gangplank for a dog / people.... That's going to be a challenge as I'd think any gangplank would need a folding middle support to handle the span between bow and beach. And it'd need to take into account the settling that is inherent in the silty bottom of the river.

Here are the two ideas that I have been looking at. A plank for stern to beach or a ladder to the beach

Thanks for the replies.

Bill, I believe that I have the "keeper sockets", for a ladder, but no ladder, I thought about modifying a gangplank to that. Then I could use the gangplank or not.

TheScottFraser,
I had seen that Gr8 White before and have not called to see what the length is.
I like that Little Giant telescoping plank...Thanks for that link, it looks like it might be the worth a look.

Hello, I'm In Louisville. I use a accordian type. I think it is 9 steps . It is on the pulpit. Using a gang plank off the pulpit it would be very steep.! I beach on the islands all the time. The pulpit would be 6' off the sand. A man in town makes a dog ladder off the stern. Joe

I am also interested in a Ganagplank or Ladder. If you have one how do you get thru the railing? Do you have a gate?

I was wanting a gangplank for ease of getting our dog ashore and on board. She is a 85 lbs German Shepherd. How do others with large dogs get them ashor and back on board ?

Mine was a stow away brand. I think they are out of business. I step over the rail. My kids go under the rail. I have pics but they wont load.Joe
