rear deck

This has been a much discussed topic. My rear deck on express replaced 17 years ago & done well until now. Port rear drains are soft.
I have followed all the solutions to replace,metal etc. My question has anyone just replaces a section at a time. The floor supports are where one could cut along that support and just replace one section at a time . I have some original floor covering that I could cover the patch with trim. Has anyone tried this and the deck is 5/8" correct?
