37 - 41 without flybridge

Post by shade2u2 »

Has anyone ever come across a 37-41' Marinette without a flybridge?
Would it be possible? Stupid? ????

All the 41's I've seen have come with a flybridge. They seem to look more 'classic' cruiser that way.
(but then again, I'm a dreamer. ;) )

I personally like the looks of them without the bridge. I have always been partial to sedans.

How would something like that be to operate solely from the Cockpit?
Do any of you "flybridge" guys run from inside much?
For me it would only be on the Ohio River...

I have a 41ft and have driven from Lower Station many times. You learn you have too in bad weather. But the Radar, AIS and Plotter are on the Upper Station.!. Visibility is poor, can't see Aft at all, and have to sometimes stand on my toes. Up or off plane it's hard to see over the bow. Usually I move the port fwd bumpers out of the way. Impossible to back into a slip.

We run the majority of the time from the flybridge. I don't like the limited visibility from the lower station. I do like having the lower station. It comes in very handy when doing engine maintenance. I also like having an extra set of instruments and controls.
One of the members has a 39 sedan without the flybridge. I think that he is on the Ohio river.

Thank you for the opinions and information.
I'd love to see that 39 on the Ohio - that's where we are...

Also there's a new member at our dock with a steel haul 52' sedan (no fly bridge). I need to ask them for a demo ride this spring. :-)

Another vote for the flybridge. I had a 32' FBS. Underway, there's a great view of the scenery from up there, not to mention getting a heads up on avoiding floating debris. Can't beat the perspective for docking. Helm in the cabin is the place to be (dry) in a storm with a duplicate set of nav and communications gear. But it was a non-preferred place for me to navigate because it was hard to see over the bow As I have experienced and another poster noted above.

(on the radio item: I had a Standard Horizon base station mounted in the cabin with their remote mic/controller up top. Voice quality was just fine up top -- all the controls were in the mic head.)
