Anyone know the weight of a 1962 30' Express?

Post by Maestro »

A friend of mine just purchased a 1962 30' Express single screw w/ AMC motor. He's trying to determine what kind of trailer he's going to need for it, but we are unsure of the weight of the boat.

Anyone know the approx. dry weight of one of these?

Very cool old boat.

Around 10,0000 lbs. empty. Maybe a ton more with fuel, water and other stuff.

I have a 63 Express. I tow it with a trailer with 2 - 5500lb 6 lug axles and a 3500 series RAM dually. I think 3 axles would be better, but time will tell.

Mine is a twin engine. What motor does it have in it? I'm always looking for those Buick motors.

It's an AMC 327 (used in Ramblers and late Hudsons).

Hi. The boat and trailer Maestro posed the questions for is mine. I ended up with a tandem axle trailer which are 3500 lb axles. Might not be enough but I can add a 3rd axle if needed. I only plan to tow it about 5 miles, hopefully not more than twice a year. I've been looking for a trailer for quite a while and the one I found was the best I could estimate I'd need and be able to reasonably modify for a hull that's nearly flat. Sure hoping my boat isn't over 10k lbs. Maestro's boat is just north of 7k lbs and his boat is two ft wider than mine with a BB Chrysler. I have a single 327. I'll weigh it soon as there's a scale close by the marina.

Only 5 miles? No problem.
