I'm sure this has been covered, but my searching hasn't found it. Has anyone removed the rear rails, if so do you have a pictures? I'm thinking about removing it and putting rod holders where the posts used to be. I'm trying to disguise this thing as a fishing boat!

I removed my rear rail this spring. I cut out a 20" section in the middle to better access the swim platform. I then took the rail to a local welding shop. I had them copy the radius of the two halves, and then made new rails out of 1/2" aluminum plate, 6" wide, so I could mount downriggers and tracks for rod holders. I also had them make me 8 - 1 1/2" aluminum tubes with 1/4" plates on top and bottom to replace the old stanchions, 15" tubes plus 1/2" for the plates for the height. I also shortened up the sides a little, to make it easier getting on and off the boat. After I got it back from the welder, I used an air grinder with scotch brite pads on it to add swirl marks as a finish and to cover up the nicks and scratches from the manufacturing. I was complimented many time this summer on how it turned out. I also installed a Great Lakes Planer rocket launcher on the hard top to get some of the extra rods out of the way.

I have done everything on this boat. She runs really well, the v6's are really impressive. After replacing everything basically I have lots of new insight now that I have run her for basically 6 months. I could make a new topic/thread asking manuvering questions, speed, RPM's, how to deal with following seas in a boat that bobs like a cork! But I am gut hooked now, I sleep on her regularly and will finally install the new generator next week. These are great boats and down here folks don't see them regularly so the 50' Hatteras crowd run over to check her out when I fuel her, kind of cool when I say she is a 64'!

Here are a few pictures of the rear rail that I had made. 1/2" aluminum plate matching the original contours of the original rail, I also had 1 1/2" pipes with 1/4" plates on top and bottom for the stanchions. I think it turned out quite well. Disregard the 21 lb. king salmon, it is only in there because of the railing.
