Joe,
I am looking to buy a trailer for a 30 ft Marinette Express , 1961 model. it has twin 109 six cyl. Gray Marines. I have no idea what the boat weight is?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.... also trying to match a truck to pull this thing and need to start with the boat weight, tandem or triple axle trailer etc... If your in the mood to chat with a newbie feel free to text or call my cell. 502-331-1361

Dean

Accurate specs on the 60's era BigM 's seems hard to come by...

Here is a post from MetalHead (who runs this site) from a couple years ago. He has a twin engine 1963.
I have a 63 Express. I tow it with a trailer with 2 - 5500lb 6 lug axles and a 3500 series RAM dually. I think 3 axles would be better, but time will tell.
My boat is very different from yours - 1970 28' with a single big block - but just to give you some ideas: it weights about 8,000 pounds (measured on a CAT scale). I have a venture 3-axle trailer rated for about 10,500 pounds. We use an old Dodge Ram 2500 V10 to haul it. This is overall an excellent towing setup. Have done several trips in the 1-2 hour range as well as one that was 5 hours. No problems.

I helped a buddy of mine tow his 1962 BigM 31 express using an F-150 and a tandem axle trailer rated for 7,000-8,000 lbs. Worked okay but we only needed to go 5 miles. For a long haul, a more robust setup would probably be needed. His boat was a single Graymarine. Can't remember the weight but could find out for you.

Hope this is helpful...

Twin 3500 lb axles should be fine for that boat. Trick will be getting it long enough. I know a guy in Piedmont Alabama that can build whatever you need.

Look at my 59 28 footer here

Look at trailer build and deliver to new home.

Here is a link that might help depending on how close your boat is to this one.

I would stay away from triple axle trailers if posible, the tires scuff and are short lived.

Look at my post above with the specs listed. Twin 6500lb (6 lug) axles are plenty for that boat. I haul my 63 with this setup with no problems .

Clarification ,

Hauled my 59 28 footer with twin 3500lb axles without an issue so 6500lb axles should be overkill since I use those to haul my 63.
