I've been there. As you know, it's much easier to do the work with the boat in the water: it is back-breaking to go up and down a ladder carrying stuff. One day someone stopped me and said he heard I was seen walking down the dock with the kitchen sink. (Actually the whole countertop.) I confirmed the rumor. Most of these folks would not have the slightest idea how to do this sort of work and I believe they appreciate those who do. It all pays off when they give you compliments on the finished product.
Good luck.

Excellant! Thanks! I want to do the same thing soon though it probably wont be this winter. I am working on replacing the aft deck currently and then the trailer is getting an overhaul. The information you provide is appreciated and i wish you the best of luck.

I can testify as one of his dock neighbors that he is doing a bang up job. Doing everything the way it should have been done . Many up grades in wiring , insulation and interior. Even has a washer & dryer. It will be the nicest Marinette I have seen when it gets done.

Looking good. Question about the bow rails. Are they thru bolted, and if so how do you get to the nuts? Or are they simply screwed in? I want to do some repair on deck that will require removing but was not sure of their installation process.

Screwed in. When we repainted, my effort to save money was to remove the bow rails and all other external h'ware and replace them. I worked carefully to get out screw by screw. When done, I was told by yard mechanic I didn't have to be so careful. Muscling them out didn't matter. enlarged holes could be filled by the next larger screw size. duh. . . lots of wasted time but then again, I was retired and where was I going anyway.
Please do yourself a favor and read Jeff's post with a method to reattach rails using special rivnuts and washers so rails aren't sitting in direct conact with deck. this is super advice!!

Your yard mechanic will use any old screw he dug out of the bottom of his tool box. You should keep a supply of new #8 and #10 stainless screews and only move up when you have to. Also use Tef-gel.
