The stock 3 blade props were 16 x 16. Got a 17 x 15 prop "cheap" (like me) so I (and it was sooo hard!) had to dig up one of those coffee cans in the backyard to buy a new one for the other side. I'll bet the gas I saved paid for both of them over the years. Engine wear (from reduced rpm) was another benefit. That's one of the reasons modern car/ truck engines last so much longer than before--they're running at lower rpm thanks to overdrive transmissions. (The top two gear in a Camaro/ Corvette 6 speed are overdrives.)

Jeff

PS: Only downside was excessive docking speed, and a tendency to stall at idle (like a car in too high a gear).

Stock props were 16 x 16 three blade. I put 17 x 15 four blades on ('cause I got one dirt cheap--like me).

Jeff,
Checking last nite's lottery tickets. If there's a winner, watch your mailbox... :-D

Seriously, though the information you, and others (including "newbies"!), provide is ESSENTIAL in establishing/maintaining a knowledge base for our Big M's! I hope I'm able to "pay it forward" as well.

Note to all...
While foraging through the myriad number of computer files I keep, I stumbled across the original propeller sizes for our boats. I've attached it and all welcome to it.
( I shudda known I had it. I keep everything I think is worthwhile...

... which is why getting into the garage is such a chore!!! :? )

Bill, thanks for the info. Question, I wonder if my "M" has the correct props. It is in the water. Are the numbers stamped in the props.
I can dive on them when the water gets warmer. It would be nice to know if I have the right ones.

Yeah, the sizes are stamped into the prop. I've seen them stamped into the hub of the prop as well as the opposite end of the hub (ie. end where the taper's the largest <to avoid having the stamping marred by the prop nut>).
