I had one of these engines before. "Ran great before it sat for 6 years" One issue I ran into that I did not think of at the time, was the lifters were stuck, not in the holes, but the hydraulic little pistons inside of them were stuck. Sometimes you can work them free, but I took them to a shop and they were convinced they were solid lifters. You could get a lot of "ticking" if they are stuck. Depends on what you are comfortable doing with an engine, but I would pull the top end off completely and check everything. That is still cheaper and easier than a complete rebuild. If you can swing it, to pull engines and put back in rebuilt ones, that is a good feeling! Nothing worse than unreliable engines on the water. Been there, done that.

Well it's been a while since I had any time to get onto the big project. I filled all cylinders with penetrating oil and then did not have a chance to make it back onto her for a month or more. I then mixed Diesel and MMO togeather and filled each cylinder and also some down the carbs. Let it sit for 2 weeks(maybe to long) and was back in her today socket on the bolt in the center of the crank pully and I cannot budge either engine at all. Beginning to realize my luck was not working out. I am assuming that removing the top end is the next steps as mentioned above.

If she won’t turn, a problem exists. They are very very forgiving engines to rebuild, just pull em.

I may be heading down that path. I have the double cabin so getting them out of the boat seems like a big challenge.

Did you use a big breaker bar to try to rotate the engine. Sometimes you might need a breaker bar with a pipe extension to get enough turning power. You might also try rocking the engine back and forth with the breaker bar. Good luck. Is the name of this boat Legend? I remember seeing it at Jamestown Marina.

No she isn't at Jamestown she is on blocks over near fishing creek and Lee's ford marina. So far I have only tried a large ratchet and a small cheater bar.

I think I'm too the point I've poured my mic of MMO and Diesel into every cylinder and let it sit for a week. Either the engines are stuck or I can't get enough leverage laying on my side between the block and the hull to move them. I think at this point I am not gaining any ground wasting days guessing and not moving forward. I think I'll get a good battery and see if they will bump over.

Have you tried using a large screwdriver on the flywheel teeth? ;) Try moving it both ways. You will get a lot of leverage at that point and it's a little easier than laying on your side.
Good Luck

They are free at last!!! Thanks for the comments about the flywheel I had never found a way to access it because i thought the transmission bell housing was covering it. I had never seen the timing plate. Anyway with it removed, a long screwdriver lots and lots of straining a few choice 4 letter words and with me threatening them they would become anchors if they didn't cooperate and boom they broke loose one after the other. Grabbed a charger and was able to hit the ignition and get them both spinning on their own power. Mr. Port needed about four more hits of the prybar before he would give up and spin freely but one he did it was smooth sailing from their on out. I hope to get a compression gauge tomorrow and see what I have to work with.
