Question: Is the sherwood pump the same for cw &* ccw engines?
Thanks, Wayne

Wayne: I shouldn't even make this post because I'm not sure and that's not helpful (apologizing) but I recall that there's just one pump for either engine.

Yes, but its body is attached to the frame differently, and the impeller is installed with the vanes going the other way.

I have printed off a copy of Jeff's pic above years ago and to this day it sits on the shelf where I put the disassembled impeller parts for each engine. The following spring (like in 2 weeks!) it comes down off the shelf as my "go to" assembly instructions!

Thanks Jeff!!!

Now..I remember (yes, thanks, Jeff). One year the mechanic installed the impeller backwards on the Stbd engine and when we started the boat, it blew water out instead of sucking it in. Giant bubbles coming up from below. A very quick shutdown reaction amidst lots of hollering saved the day.

That seal is a sophist iced mechanical seal that must be installed carefully. The bearings will need replacement as well.

Though I'm both anal and abstinent, I refused to rebuild mine and bought a new one. I suggest you do as well.
