Engine rotation confusion
Engine rotation confusion
I'm a little confused about engine rotation. I have a single engine. As I view the engine from the front, rotation is CCW. As I view it from the rear, rotation is CW. There seems to be differing opinions on whether rotation is determined from the front or rear of the engine. The reason I'm asking is because I want to make sure my new alternator is cooling properly so need to know rotation so I can get thr right fan for the front it.

Check this thread on rotation.

Most important is understanding where the front and rear of engine are located.

Re: Engine rotation confusion
Wow. Is that post ever confusing. Is the moral of the story that rotation is determined by standing at the stern (aft) and observing rotation?

Re: Engine rotation confusion
I believe on the alternators it make NO difference on rotation as far as charging goes! Now Cooling is a different matter
On a differant note
My 37' with twin 360. The port engine is left hand rotation, the prop turns inboard

Re: Engine rotation confusion
Does make difference on alternator because there's a fan on the front (behind the pulley) that draws in air to cool the alternator.
