Here's what that sleeve looks like. The distributor shaft has to be a bit longer, I think, to use it.

You should have no problem dropping it in if lined up properly.

Here is a picture of my STB Dist. 3rd season. There has been some minor corrosion but easy to control. Great access to advance weights and springs. I clean with spray lube and lube pivot pins. Boat runs great and I kept the org. spring setup which came on the Dist. I tried other curves but did not notice much difference. Worked with Rodger and he is great to work with. Very helpful.

new pertronix in original sleeve.jpg
pertronix is checking into this. looks like they made a change and finding out now problems with the motors that have the sleeve. I can not say if the twin engine boats ever come out with two standard rotation motors????

Chrysler at least thru 1988 used ONLY COUNTER ROTATIONG MOTORS.

Both dist. rotate the same direction.

Does not look like your sleeve is seated all the way up against the collar?

They will work it out keep us posted!

My boat is currently on the hard (bottom job time) but next time I get to it I will try and take a photo of the Dist. install with sleeve.

I'm making a print for them now. I find it hard to believe they have ran into as they say 3rd reverse rotation engine application. I have a friend with twins one standard and one counter and have moved the distributor s back and forth and it's really straight forward same sleeve on the counter same prestolite o.e.m.s and another friend with a 67 house boat same setup. The spacer is the easy way to tell if it's standard or counter rotation.

Your Pertronix unit looks different than mine. (mine has red cap)

Question: Is your OEM Presto. electronic ignition or is a point style.

There is a difference in the dist. between the Point type and the newer Electronic Dist.

Not sure the boat was a basket case last year. This site has been a great help. From what I have seen I would guess it to be a points converted to the Pertronix pickup. I have worked on the early chrysler eletronics and I have seen the point style. Boats a 72 and the 78 I worked on had what looked to be first generation HEI style.(not sure what Chrysler called them.) This is a feild test and I'm working with Roger meaning all the new parts with out any coating to see if the new materials helps stays the same or goes the other way. I want to rebuild this O.E.M for a spare so if one or the other are better let me know.

Jeff:
I do not have a 1973 Dist. so I am not sure there were any changes on the way they were machined. I am only guessing.
Like you I am a tester but been three seasons so I think they have the data Rodger was looking for. I provided input and maybe they improved on the ones I have been testing?

My engines are 1986 and had stock Presto Electronic ignitions with ECU and external resistor.

Mine dropped right in and timed right up. I spent more time making sure I was setup with rotor pointing to # 1 on each engine before I pulled them.

See no reason why they would have changed the Pertronix Unit dimensions? I would not think there was a different sleeve in 73 either?

I am on Lake Barkley and next time you talk to Rodger say hi for me. If I can help let me know.

Important you keep this issue up to date for all.

Like usual, I was totally wrong. After a closer look, I see the spacer in question on the stb. engine
