I'll say!

About 8 degrees initial is normal, by the way.

Which ignition system are you running ?

Have you verified the total ignition advance? If initial advance is 11 degrees and you have the stock Chrysler mechanical advance, your total advance should be 31 to 35 degrees. While the initial advance is important, you might want to adjust the springs to raise the total advance above 2500 RPM. You stroker motors should really come alive above 2700-3000 RPM. Typically the torque and HP curves will converge at this point with a stroked motor. You HP will increase above this point .

Tune the ignition in that range. It might be as simple as adding 3-5 degrees of timing with a lighter spring.

Check out the Mopar forums. There are quite a few tutorials on this topic.

I have HEI type distributors aboard. The motors are running great! It has a nice sweet spot at 2600 rpm, just before the four barrels kick in. The boat is now back at Norris Lake. Just changed/removed the break in oil and installed wix filters and 10w40 Joe Gibbs OIL called Driven, that has the zinc package in it for the flat tappet cams.

OK.

The HEI module is controlling the spark. It provides a much better spark than the stock Mopar module.

Unless you have a computer controlled ignition system, you still have either vacuum or mechanical advance mechanisms controlling the ignition system advance curves. There are springs located under rotor inside the distributor that control the advance curve. Changing these springs will adjust the total advance curve. Weaker springs allow for more ignition advance.

The stock springs are limiting the motor performance above 1500 RPM.

The distributors were built specifically for the 318s a year a year ago. It planes at 2200 rpm and goes bat shit crazy at 3000rpm. It runs too good to mess with it. They were tuned by the engine builder and the mechanic at Harbortowne Marine. Wr want them to last and last ! Thanks for your comments!

Going to spend a week on her and travel to other parts of our lake (Norris Lake) in early August. Jeff, if you are ever in eastern Tennessee I will take you for a ride. Barefoot99 took a short ride and he said, Holly shit! It has a Scat Enterprise rotating assembly, I have all the part numbers, specs on the custom cams, Scorpion roller rockers, stainless steel valves, reconfigured heads. BTW it is a 392 cu.in.

:D 392 stroker motors are still running well after 54 hours on them.
