We are scheduled to test run the boat May6,7,8 so I will post an update after that weekend. Scat Enterprises makes a 390 cu.in. inch rotating assembly. We rebuilt the stock heads with stainless steel valves, the cam was modified to add duration and lift. Compression is 9 to 1. Hitch Machine Shop in Maryville, Tn. Did the work.

I see my 350 engines are listed as 9:1 compression and run regular auto gas, so it can be done. Any more compression and I would expect you would have to use premium, or for real gas, use av-gas. (100LL) It is rated 100/130 octane (lean/ rich) and costs a little more but is good stuff and still has lead in it. Also good for lawn mowers and little engines and cheaper than the $5.00 per quart stuff NAPA sells.--Ed

Most marinas sell 89 octane gas, and a 9:1 compression motor will handle that just fine.

Last Monday we were asked to come down for a test run and it jumped out of the water! However the port motor pushed out a head gasket. Fortunately that is it. The motor should be back in the boat this week.

LOL - so it was too much for the gasket or it wasn't installed correctly?

Do not know what happened to the head gasket. The machinist that built the motors replaced both head gaskets and the motor is back in the boat. It has another hour of run time since the gaskets were replaced. They have 9 to 1 compression. Not unusual for things to go wrong after a rebuild. Test runs next Thursday and Friday on the Little Tenn. River. I will post results by next weekend. Harbortowne reported 33mph at 4300rpm. They redline at 5800rpm. We have not re-pitched the stock 16x15 props. BigM

Those babies should easily twist 16 x 17 props.

Hey Jeff! I want to run it a while like it is and go from there. Harbortowne says it comes out of the hole well and planes easily. I think 35mph is amazing in a 32ft cruiser!

Not for a big M! Fan-damn-tasic boats.

My boating buddy, with his groaning Sea Ray (28 footer with a big block), nearly fell over (literally) when I planed mine off a bit too enthusiastically. "Holy sh*t!" he gasped. And when I made a 360 degree, full lock turn at 2,000 rpm--still on plane and with lots of bodies aboard--he was stunned; his boat fell off plane under 3,000 rpm.

Big Ms forever!
