I've rebuilt both my 502ci and also had to strip down to short blocks. We use 4x6 timber and with a Come Along, slide the blocks up the companionway steps. Lift off back deck with a Boom or Bucket Truck.
Must have A Frame lift with rollers, covered floors and back deck with rubber mats and card board and a lot of muscle and finess.
drgonze has it all correct. I was afraid to go out the windows worried about possible damage to the walls around the windows. ( i did job in the water in a fixed dock and was worried about wake.)
