Well the old girl is now having ignition/fuel problems it seems backfiring under load at 2400 to 3k and losing power thinking it's carb rebuild time they havent been touched in 10 years never had any issues dont fix it if it aint broke right just want to get some opinions on where the best place to start is. Probably going to go cap rotor plugs and wires first to rule that out but I am suspicious of the carbs and probably rightly so
Thanks in advance
P.S. bill your experience is hauntingly familiar

Re: Carb rebuild time?
Before tearing into the carbs, grab a timing light and verify ignition advance at 2,000+ RPM. If you don't have at least 20 degrees of advance, the advance weights might be rusted or an advance spring may be broken. Easy fix and might only cost you an hour and a few squirts of oil.

I didn't even think of that! I'll have to check into that firstericinga wrote:Before tearing into the carbs, grab a timing light and verify ignition advance at 2,000+ RPM. Carburetor Specialists in Alpharetta, Ga. did mine, 678-393-1501, not cheap but all things considered happy with the results.

Will do that for sure going to check the basic simple stuff before we call the calvary. I'm sure he's quite busy with that awesome 34 he just acquired. Looking at that boat makes you wonder what might have been if the company had continued onericinga wrote:If you need help, contact Ron Spies. Hes a FYC member and a Marinette owner. Re: Carb rebuild time?
90%of carb problems are ignition problems. I wouldn't get into that carb at all.

Pure "boat porn" for the 70 year old. He has always wanted a '34 and couldn't wait to get his hands on it. In all honestly, he could spend 10 minutes on your motor and save you hours of time. He has not forgotten much from his ASE certifications.railrunner04 wrote:Will do that for sure going to check the basic simple stuff before we call the calvary.
