Exhaust manifold, 1972 318-325

Post by Rockxx »

Found out today that I have a quarter size hole in my starboard exhaust manifold. Anyone having a suggestions as to repairing, or replacing, new or old, please let me know. Anyone knowing of one that might be available, please let me know. Finally located a replacement head and got it installed and then find the bad manifold. Just how good is JB Weld?

If a hole showed up once, they are only going to keep showing up. Replace it. You can still buy them new. Take a close look at your end plate and riser/outlet. If the gasket surfaces are getting rusty, replace them, or if it is in good enough shape, and you have someone who can do it, machine them flat again. I do have a few good used manifolds that have had the ends machined like new.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. What would one of your used ones cost and are you able to ship. I'd like to visit and pick it up but it's a long haul from Tennessee.

Feel your pain just replaced mine on both engines. What I thought was a blown head gasket turned out to be a rotted out exhaust manifold, dumping water into the number eight cylinder on the port engine. Knowing they were original to the boat figured the starboard was right behind. What's been in the back of my mind ever since is if these heavy cast iron manifolds where that rusted out what about the engine blocks.
