So if looking at the engine from the flywheel is standard rotation clockwise or counterclockwise.Trying to get a feel for what standard should be?

Viewing from aft forward. I consider a standard rotation engine to rotate Counter Clock Wise. In my boat this engine is on the port side.

This ebasicpower site has an excellent FAQ section plus so much more. Good resource material. The more I drill down and read about twin screw engines the more I realize there is actually quite a few differences between a Left Hand and a Right Hand rotating engine. I made the mistake at looking at their "New" Marine Engine link, the 5.7L 350 CID Enhanced Vortec motors really caught my eye.

Okay, I think I'm all set on my engines. I just read everything I could find and watched countless videos on my twin screw crusaders. I'm going to proceed old school. I purchased a good quality compression tester and a remote starting switch online today. The first thing I'm going to do is check my compression in all sixteen cylinders and document the results, the remote starter switch simplifies the task. The results will tell me a lot about the condition of my engines. If my compression is good across the board I'm not tearing them down. They run great but I don't know how many hours are on them. From there I move forward with the list I've compiled below.

1) Determine engine rotation Port and Starboard. Look at fan belt routing for any differences engine to engine.
2) Identify engine model and serial numbers. Order parts and service/repair manuals.
3) Determine ignition type. Identify distributor type.
4) Determine firing orders.
5) Determine carburetor model information.
6) Determine starter model information.
7) Determine alternator model information.
8) Determine circulating water pump model information.
9) Determine raw water pump model information. Look at hose routing to identify any differences engine to engine.
10) Determine fuel pump model information.
11) Determine coil model information.
12) Oil and fuel filter information.
13) Determine my transmission model and serial numbers. (I'm fairly certain they are velvet drives but not sure of the ratio)
