Ceiling & paneling

One of my projects before boating season starts is to replace the ceiling over the V berth. The existing paneling is coated in a gloss white, and in horible shape. I am kicking around the idea of having some aluminum sheets cut to replace the paneling. Then having them powder coated or spraying some good quality industrial paint. Has anybody else done this. I am also looking at the same thing for the entire cockpit sides. After seeing the condensation problems on the inside of the decks and cabin tops, I don't know if I want to put anything up that absorbs moisture. I bet the sheets of paneling I pulled down weighed more than sheets of 3/16" aluminum would.
Thoughts?

Same v berth project here also. The v berth ceiling is out and I have the originals as rough templates. I found flimsy thin 4 x 8 white plastic/PVC sheets that have a texture on 1 side at HD. I might go with that. The cockpit sides on mine are aluminum sheets on the sides and across the back. Nice fit, looks factory, but doubt if it is.

My cockpit and cabin walls have the textured plastic. I don't know when it was installed, but it has yellowed and become brittle. In the next few years I would like to replace all of it with something else. Not sure what, but I am leaning towards sheet aluminum.

I put the pvc sheets from Lowes on v birth ceiling & cabin side walls 10 plus years ago. Works great easy to clean & no problem getting wet if window track leaks. no yellowing. I think if you had alum ceiling panel you may have condensation problem .

Did you put plywood behind the PVC (FRP) plastic panels? --Ed

I decided to take a chance and go with aluminum. I have also decided to paint it with some leftover automotive paint I have lying around. Not sure what color yet, but it will be "fun".
My options are:
Dark blue metallic
Bright blue metallic
Fucia metallic
Light gold
Teal metallic
We will see what I grab off the shelf when that day comes.

:) Or you could look in the VENDERS LIST.
And never have to worry about sweating or discoloration.
