Main Helm Station Pedestal Box Restoration

Postby carl » Sun Jan 01, 2017 12:32 pm

Here is a picture of the side of my main helm station pedestal box in the salon before I start my restoration of it. Remarkably this is the only thing on this entire boat that has ever been butchered over the past 26 years since it was built. The previous owners had themselves a "Hack Fest" with this panel. I pulled out an old AM/FM radio that didn't fit correctly, a gasoline fume detector, the control box for the air conditioner and a cigarette lighter/courtesy light combo. I will post additional pictures as I work through the restoration of this panel, I have a good plan for it, more to come...

My new blank canvas. This is a piece of 1/2" black Starboard material I cut to fit over the cutout I made in the side of my Main Helm Station Pedestal Box, I routed the edges and countersunk the eight mounting holes for a finished look. Here I will install the instruments of my choice, currently I have a new gasoline fume detector and a high water bilge alarm on hand to install. I think I have a better place for my new AM/FM/CD radio to go. I'll post another picture when this panel is complete with it's instruments installed.
