Shakespeare VHF/AM/FM Band separator

Post by balthaus »

Are any of you folks using these or have experience with them?
I have dual station vhf and have upgraded lower stereo, and will likely add one on FB.

I have one on my 21' Lund, it works, but doesn't get great reception. You probably have more powerful and numerous stations by you, which would help.

We are on the Ohio River and typically don't go more than 20 miles or so up river of Louisville. I have read some stuff about potential damage to stereo head units..but most of those posts were several years old. We also mainly listen to the iPod but is would be nice to listen the radio at times.

Ben, it has too much signal loss. I would use separate antennas for best xmit and reception.

Well I guess I'll be getting some am/fm antennas then.
Any thoughts on mounting them in very close proximity to the VHF antennas?
By very close proximity I mean that I have one ratchet mount that is probably less tha a foot from the VHF mount.

always used an antenna separator/combiner, never separate antennae for VHF and FM. FM reception was good ( and we were much loer than most of the stations we enjoyed); never perceived a problem w/xmit or Rcv on VHF. Antenna height is the critical thing here. I had flybridge and that gave 4 or 5 extra feet.

But the earlier poster is correct; there will be a little signal loss so it depends on how far you think you want to xmit. Difficulty receiving a VHF signal is often the fault of the other guy. Distance, his installation quality, his connections. And the advantage of separate antennae is that if one fails you have the other. Smooth jazz, no mayday. Mayday, who the hell cares about the smooth jazz.
