FCF AC Blower motor

Post by honestcharlie56 »

The blower motor for my ac is not working. It's getting power, but not spinning....wanting to spin....humming.....nothing. I know this is going to be something simple. Any ideas?

I believe the motor is probably shot. You may be able to dismount it and take it to an electrical repair shop. I'd call around first. It's likely the armature is shorted. Gets to be a case of cost of rebuild vs cost of new motor. Electrical repair shops will have an in on motor replacement as well.

Absolutely! Oddly enough I totally over looked the capacitor because I've always thought motors would hum/run hot/try to start/SOMETHING, even with no capacitor. But this thing was literally doing NOTHING. But all motor tests were showing a good motor........and had power to motor.....how odd. Jumped it to the compressor's capacitor and fan shot right off!!

The capacitor is to shift the current phase for starting. It is only used to give some torque to start the motor. The motor will run for you but you would have to give it a little spin to start it. It will run either direction that you spin it.

well on any other motor I would absolutely agree with you. But in this case with this motor and a bad capacitor it quite literally is dead. No humming, so starting if you spin it....totally dead. Jump it over to the compressors capacitor and away it went.

sounds like the capacitor was bad and shorted out

alright fellas!!! update time. I looked all over and can't find anything for parts on this WEBASTO 16k btu (except their factory outlet on ebay $$$$$$$$$). I finally found a website called Western Branch Diesel. I haven't received my order yet, so they might not even be a real company and stole my money. But they did have the part and it was at a decent price. $140 for the whole control board and like $6 for the capacitor.

Gentlemen, small update. I received my new control board and new fan capacitor from Western Branch. The control board was slightly different and does not talk to the existing thermostat. Can't comment on the new fan capacitor as nothing is currently operational. Will update on western branch's return policy and customer service.
