Are you still on the original coil?

Looks like your rotor is hitting the base of the terminals of the cap also. Make sure the rotor is not contacting anything, this could be causing you problems.

Good eye I have an email into Roger now. When I checked for my friend they had two part numbers and the last digit was a Red cap or Black. This one is what came with the unit. I did buy a spare rotor and cap so I'm sure I will start off with them next year. Coil is new from pertronix.

There's two different Prestolite distributor cap/ rotor combinations: One has the spring carbon plunger (for the coil wire) in the cap; the other has it as a stainless spring on the rotor. The two designs are different in diameter and are NOT interchangeable.

Check to see where the springy element is. One part--cap or rotor, and one part only-- should have the springy connection.

Update for all . After cleaning the cap and talking with Pertronix they sent out a second unit for test. The new units have no screen like the O.E.M stuff and a sealed cap. This is the latest and greatest certified unit they have had tested and will be bring it to market. We did a little over 200 miles over the Turkey day holidays with no trouble.
