Thank you so much for that add and I look forward to being a part of the community.
Im in Erie PA and stumbled across a 1970 28 Express on Craigslist for $700.00
The boat has been in dry dock for 4 years. The owners pulled it at the end of a season and started a minor refresh. Over that winter the folks hit some hard times with health issues and some other things and the boat sat. It was sitting in their drive way and the city made them move it. They moved it to a friends place and there it sat for a few years.
When I found the ad there was no pictures and the ad was very generic. It wasn't far from the house and I thought it was for sure a basket case. But becasue it was close I took a drive by, to my surprise is was in fair shape.
So I bought the boat, had her brought home and I went to work. She came home Nov 7th 2014. So far, I have checked the engine for spark and made sure she turns, She does!
I have taken all the wood trim out of the cabin and have sanded, stained and varnished all the cabin wood. Now I sit and wait for warmer weather to see if I can get her to fire up. She is a single screw and has 1200 hours. But I feel at some point she had to be rebuilt. I was told the original owner was local doctor and she spent most of her time at the local yacht club. So slowly I am putting her back together.
My plan is to get her in the water and see how she does, making little adjustments here and there.
I have become obsessed with doing the great american loop and have a 5 year plan to get there.
Wish me luck and I will keep you posted!
Thanks
Kyle
