The 26' project

Post by Jeepowell »

I have a stripped 26' hull, two new marine small blocks and a very small IQ.
This is the plan.
1. Go from a single screw to twins.
2. Extended the hull 4' and build a "Sea Ray" style "built in" swim platform with steps down from the aft deck.
3. Move engine aft as little as possible, to get the props under the new hull extension with new rudders.
4. Redesign the cabin/aft deck to 21 century, move head forward and make it wet, new galley and larger dinette table area.
5. Long list of things not covered in 1-4

Not the goal, but I think "if" it gets "completed", it will be the fastest Marinette on the water, guessing 60mph

I KNOW THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA, it would be much easier to buy another boat, so lets leave those comments out.

where I would like help is with the hull extension and convertion to twins, has anyone done this, links to helpful sits, anything anyone can think of?

Thanks Roger,
I have already pulled everything I could get from a 32' that got scraped, but the struts may not work, because I am going to work prop tunnels into the extension design.

I don't think you'll see anything but admirable comments for the level this project involves. Wish you best of luck.

You may have already checked into this, but could the prop shaft tunnels on the scrapped 32' have worked?

To help with the design to install the twin engines, look at a twin. Take pictures and measurements and reverse engineer it to a 26'. I know one you can examine. I should be in the water near your house by the end of week.

Bill, Marinettes don't have prop tunnels, are you thinking of shaft logs? A prop tunnel is recess in the hull to get a better shat angle and less draft, shat log is the tube that the shaft goes through the hull.

Why not? Somebody converted one to outboards, remember? Was tempted to do the same thing more than once!
