Moving up to 32

Post by Leviathon »

Moving up to a 1973 Marinette Fisherman 32 from my 1968 28' Marinette Express. Anyone in the market, it is on a trailer in Southwest Michigan ready for you to pull home $8,000. Cannot wait for next Summer to get into this new boat, well new to me boat.

No survey - bought this boat from photos online. Knew I would find surprises. This was one of those "boat angel" type of deals. Just did not get a chance to survey it myself prior to purchase.

It turns over slower that the other engine, but I did hear it run last week prior to moving the boat from Cleveland to Michigan. I need to start some diagnoses to see where the water is coming in, hoping for a head gasket.

If the boat is running I would change the oil then go for a test run for maybe 30 mins. Then change the oil again and then go on another longer test run. In my experience with motors it does not take a lot of water to cause a milky oil on the dip stick.. This could have been caused by condensation and possibly lack of changing the oil over a long period of time. I would try that first and then of the problem still persists go ahead and find the leak source. It could take a few oil changes to get all the milky oil out of the system.

Check the oil cooler. Had one on my buddy's AMC 327 do it. We found it after we did head gaskets.

BigM
Steve,
The cooler on original equiped boats is for trans fluid. :D Which is located port side on the engine. :geek:
