I had the other model. I once gave the mate the wheel while I peed and directed that the boat be kept headed toward point x (probably a bright buoy). On returning, we were headed toward point y, 180 degrees off course. Relieved of duty on the spot. Mate had a big smile as if to say you won't give me that job again and returned to the loungeFastjeff wrote:The "Admiral" was my autopilot. Worked at any speed.Jeff

Re: auto pilot
I let my brother-in-law Steve run the boat as a favor to the Admiral. After 'prompting' him a few times on looking ahead for debris and buoys, which he was having trouble doing, he eventually "explained " to me that he didn't have his glasses on!
Needless to say he was relieved on the spot.

Oh my God! That was insane. And you're right, even the best pieces of equipment and tools are worthless for a bad pilot.BlueSkye wrote:Years ago I went on a cruise with some guys from the Power Squadron. Nice guys, teaching boater safety classes. There were five boats and we agreed to try the leader across Lake Ontario to Alexandria Bay. The guy following had a brand new big tub of a boat with the latest stuff. We ran into some rough water and phenq GNC discount I slowed to lessen the screaming from my crew below.
This guy behind me was not on the bridge. He was overtaking me directly using and astern. Didn't respond to the radio. I powered off to the right and he passed me, still a ghost ship. The swell turned me around 180. I decided to leave the cruise and go back the way I came. Never saw him again.
A steering mechanism is no substitute for a pilot. Just sayin.
