32 fly transport

Post by JEB »

I may want to transport my 1987 32"
What is the height with the windshield taken off the fly bridge.
Transport says they may be able to transport without removal for 500 bucks extra...that would be worth it to me..
I once saw a build sheet that had all the dimension of all the models but i cant find it anymore..

A second question.....were the older 32's with v8 motors equipped with 1 or 1.25 shafts?

Thanks for any info!!

my 1986 32 FB has 1.25 shafts.

Can't answer any of your other questions though.

My boat of that vintage also had a 1 1/4" shaft.

Every move-the-boat post I've ever seen on the forum over many years involved taking down the FB with the need to carefully mark all loose connecting wires. For one thing, I wouldn't trust an out of date highway info system in any state for good clearance data. A road repaving project could result in the roadbed being raised a hair, enough to give the boat a hair-cut

My '72 32 footer has 1" shafts. Most of the boats with 1:1 trans had 1" shafts. The ones with reduction gears seem to all have 1.250" shafts. My boat is too tall to go down the road without pulling the bridge. I don't remember the number but it was taller than I expected for a 32 foot boat.

If you want more reason to not cut it close on transport height, look up Monon #50 locomotive.

WOW, im kinda surprised no body knows the height of our boats for transport. I guess its really pretty uncommon to transport so understandable.
I wish i knew where i saw those build diagrams as they were interesting just to look at but provided useful information.

In the search box at the top right, in case you have not already done this, put the word "height" or other word you want to key on. You' may find some useful earlier posts or perhaps the name of another user who has done this before. In the meantime, I will venture a guess that there is no road that has a bridge that will fit your boat with its flybridge intact. Another avenue to pursue is too contact haulers and see if they have pulled a Marinette and have the data you need. good luck

One thing you have to remember is that even though these boats were mostly cookie cutter designs for a given length there were some dimensional differences throughout the years. For example, I know that the OAH of my '72 32' is about a foot less than the '86 32' just around the corner and around 8" less than the '79 32' behind me. The bottom design and flybridge design changed over the years and affected the measurement.

just measured mine for transport in spring. 1990 32' measured 13.5' from keel to top of flybridge. windshield removed is 6" less. Transport company said they can move it with flybridge on and windshield off . They figure it will load to 15' on their trailer.

my shafts are 1.25, twin 318's

I got the same good news from a transport company and that why i was inquiring.
I would take the shafts and rudders out if that helps too. I had much rather do that than take the fly bridge off.
This company has a trailer that goes really low.
My question on the shafts is because im looking at a old 70s that had new motors and the the boat sat when the owner died.
Looks to me like he kept the 70s 1 in shafts due to the struts being 1 in struts. Motors are later vintage, electronic ignition, the later no log style exhaust, newer pump design etc... Ill measure next time i go out. Good news on the height. Ill measure my boat to make sure. Thanks for the info Putz!!!!
