Hydraulic Steering

Post by Tuggle »

Finally completed my hydraulic steering project, what a difference, night and day! Wasn't all that hard just a lot of grunt work, what I did do differently was use standard hydraulic hose rather than the SeaStars hose, easy conversion using ORB to JIC fittings. Also used 5606h fluid rather than the SeaStar, my goal was to be make sure replacement parts were easily obtainable. Bleeding the system went fairly well, think I'll do it again in a week or so just to get any trap air out. I would highly recommend this upgrade to anyone.

I totally agree with your recommendation. I just recently converted mine to Sea-star hydraulic and really wish I would done it years ago. Five turns of the wheel from stop to stop with your finger tips. I used a 8.3 cubic inch actuating cylinder which will allow me to use garmin's cheapest autopilot setup and control it from the fish finder. Hope to make this happen sometime this summer.
