Re: Bent Rudder shafts?
So, I had the shafts straightened, and rudder plates fabricated in Stainless Steel. They are beautiful but expensive today and in Annapolis, MD.
Then I rebuilt the hydraulic cylinder, put in new non metallic cutless bearings ( per Jeff’s Instructions). I cut them in half, and put 2” above, and 2” below. I repacked the stuffing box with 1/4” flax (5/16” was too large).
They work great.
I made Jeff’s reverse ground chisel out of an ancient, long, 1/2” wood chisel- worked very well.
