Are the grommets are going to seal in place of the oil fill half turn? They will probably have to be quite thick. Should work if they are

I hate seeing that white crud in my valve covers.

'I hate seeing that white crud in my valve covers." That white crud is water vapor mixed with the oil. That is why you run the engine long and hard enough to boil off the water. The water is a product of combustion of the fuel and gets in the oil from blow-by past the rings.
