I had the other model. I once gave the mate the wheel while I peed and directed that the boat be kept headed toward point x (probably a bright buoy). On returning, we were headed toward point y, 180 degrees off course. Relieved of duty on the spot. Mate had a big smile as if to say you won't give me that job again and returned to the lounge

I have an all original King's AP. head is fully functional and expandablble available. compass and all wires. ready to take out fora restorer.700..00 OBO

Happened to me too once. But my buddy was drunk and next day he took the wheel and was perfect.

I let my brother-in-law Steve run the boat as a favor to the Admiral. After 'prompting' him a few times on looking ahead for debris and buoys, which he was having trouble doing, he eventually "explained " to me that he didn't have his glasses on!

Needless to say he was relieved on the spot.
