Mermaid AC problem solved

Post by yooper »

I got a Mermaid AC with my 1988 32' project boat. I needed to have it serviced. The AC tech weighed about 350 lbs and didn't want to crawl into the "wine cellar" under the salon deck to get at the unit. I had to take it out and bring it to his shop. Hire a skinny tech for boat work. The unit then blew cold or hot but would shut off intermittently and would not stay on over several days. I lived with it for a couple of years until the water pump plastic housing broke. I installed the recommended replacement which was a very sturdy unit with a epoxy coated metal case and much larger GPH. The unit now runs perfectly and is always on when go out to the boat.

My AC unit does the same if you get an air leak in the system. 99.9 % of the time it's the filter bowl cap that gets the air leak. Tighten down nuts good to go.
