Another thing about having a flybridge is the redundancy of systems (steering, throttle, shift, gauges).
A few years back we were headed out on our yearly trip down river. I'd worked on the upper station's steering system (rebuild due to leaking) prior to heading out on our trip. Even though I'd followed the instructions, when were pulled out of the harbor, I found that I had no steering on the upper station . We were able to return to the dock with throttle / shift control. Not able to immediately determine the cause, but we did have steering on the lower station (hydraulic both locations). Made the trip from down below.

... oh, and the dog (miniature dachshund) loved having us down stairs the entire time.

The 39 Sedan w/o a fly bridge is located at pier 99 In Warsaw Ky. mile 531 on the Ohio. Name on the boat is LIBERTY ONE, I should know !!! Seriously though,

I have had it both ways and I do not ever miss cleaning up on the bridge on wash day. As I get older I want the boat to be more fun and less work and this suits me well now for 5 years. I have my own trailer so I often pull the boat by myself and take it to storage in the fall. Being lower on overall height on the trailer I just take off thru town and have thus far always got by with it just fine I really like being down on the same level with with everyone else when out for a boat ride too. Only other advantage is people with Bridges always drive up top and usually have the below not configured for easy use so when it gets hot in Aug. I just crank up the air and watch them sweat. Thats just my take, I do like / love Fly bridge boats too and understand why people would not be without, just a matter of preference and this works for me.

I feel the same way and will own it as long as I am boating. Best part is and since I never plan to sell it, I will share that I bought it in Marinette WI, for 1/3 of 2006 prices during the 08-09 market crash. One family owned to fish in Green Bay, interior looked like it was never used other than sun fade on upholstery which we had all re-done. Was a man and his 3 sons and I think they only used the back deck and the frig. !! and somehow never put so much as a finger print on the interior woodwork. It had 600 hours at the time and almost 800 now. I love this dumb boat so much I sold a 466 Bertram after buying it and never looked back Bought and sold a 370 sundancer since too and it was no where close to the usability of the Marinette. I'm a Certified boat nut !! Here is a couple of pic's of how i set up the interior for running and optimum visibility...

That works two ways: twice the electrical and mechanical crap to keep working properly.
