I checked out that boat for sale at Highway Marine. At first the guy said it was a 31' and I got all excited since that's the "dream boat" I've been looking for. Turns out it's a 32' with no title... I'd love to have a 32 (clear title of course), but I don't think the state troopers would be so thrilled with me towing that thing sans permit.

I'd love to find a 31' x 9' this year! Maybe I'll get lucky... ;)

Sorry. She looked like a 28 as I drove by.

What did they want for it? Just curious.

The boat listed in that photo is/wuz John Dyer's boat. It was a 28 before he added the outboard mounts that extended it to 31 feet.

He put quite a bit of coin into that boat even before the twin outboards. Nice boat though.

I have a 1975 28 hard top express I removed the cabinets in the V birth and framed over the inset and made giant bed which is very comfortable for big people then I mounted a flatscreen TV on the bulkhead adjoining the galley now I sleep sideways very comfortably
I removed the 360 Chrysler engine and added a bracket and put a 200 hp Yamaha on my boat I plan on taking it on the Great Loop in late September

Note: PA started to title boats after 1990, so any boat built before then does not have (or need) a title.

Bought a 1987 bow rider--no title, of course--and had no trouble registering it in PA.

I would be interested in selling my 31 X 9. Are you still looking?

Yes, I'd be interested in your 31 X 9. That's the exact one I'm looking for. :D

Can you post some pictures?

Fastjeff,

I was unaware that certain state(s) didn't used to require titles on boats. I'd heard of trailers not requiring titles, but the boat title not being required is surprising to me. For a rare boat I'd get the title worked out somehow. For a common 32 it didn't seem worth any trouble. I do, however, appreciate you giving me a lead on a potential find. ;)

I remember a conversation with a guy from who was trying to register a boat in TX that he purchased in LA. He only had the boat title since the trailer and I think the outboard motor also didn't require titles in LA where the boat was sold new. He was having a very rough time with registration and, after 4 visits to the DMV and TX Parks Department, he basically walked out with only the boat title/registration. He said that he planned to return and claim the trailer as a home-built to see if that would get him a license plate. I think he gave finally just up on the outboard title. What a pain.
