Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
Nothing wrong with putting anode shaft collars on them. The problem is finding the correct type. Marinas normally only have zinc which does nothing. Your Rudder,Keel and tab anodes if properly maintained will be sufficient.
Aluminum is the proper one to use. Mag. is too hot and they will not last long and are too hot for salt or brackish water.

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
I have used the exact anode from Barkley Dave's link for the last 3 years. My engine is isolated from the shaft with a Globe Drivesaver, but the anode is on there for peace of mind.

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
I use the shaft anodes from BoatZincs as well. Always a good idea in my mind.

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
I used Boat Zinc on mine and they needed replacement every two years (in brackish water). That means they were working, right?

That is why they are called "sacrificial" anodes. Better to have them get eaten up or dissolved than the boat.Fastjeff wrote:I used Boat Zinc on mine and they needed replacement every two years (in brackish water). That means they were working, right?

I put new shaft anodes on every year. It is hard to find the aluminum ones. Different brand names for the aluminum anodes but they are all the same alloy. Best place to go is boatZincs.com You could call them up and tell them you have Marinette, what size it is and they will know exactly what you need, and have the best price.
If you are shopping for Globe Drivesavers, be sure to shop around. Prices vary wildly by who sells them. All made by the same company. Found some companies marking the price up 3 or 4 times the cheaper places. Easy to save $600 to $800 if you shop around.--Ed

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
I bought mine from Marine Parts Source, I chose to go with Magnesium because I am a freshwater ONLY application. Was also looking to raise my hull potential numbers closer to 1000. Was reading about 650 with no signs of corrosion, but thats a little low in my opinion

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
Four years since my last bottom paint job, installed prop shaft anodes at that time. All my other aluminum anodes are fine, just need cleaning up. They have some calcium on them. The prop shaft anodes are at least have gone! So they did their job, installing new ones. The hull is in great shape, pressure washing the hull for new Trilux 33 bottom paint.
