Muffler
Muffler
Lads, thanks for all the great advise on my prior post about Engine Noise and Odor. Now my trusty boat mechanic tells me that he believes my exhaust noise and backed-up fumes are likely coming from a "collapsed baffle or two in the muffler." He has confirmed that the engine is running great and there is no leakage at the exhaust manifolds. So, (1) Does this explanation seem reasonable? and (2) if so where do I get the muffler and which one? My mufflers are cylindrical, about 3-4 feet long, and maybe 8" in diameter, though the connection points are likely 3-4 inches. No labels are markings of any kind ... of course. Thanks. BILL

Now if U can some one with a small hand to reach inside there and feel if they are still in one piece one on each end it probably isn't the muffler cause they run some where around $300 each

Re: Muffler
Thanks Jeff and Norm .... so, I take it that the mechanic's theory is plausible. Great photos Norm! That's what mine look like - at least on the outside. Good tip on the pre-replacement exploration. I have a young grand-nephew who needs to get a little "greasy," if you know what I mean. I'll report back when I know more. You guys are the best! BILL

Re: Muffler
Depending on year (80s for sure) Marinette used Vernatone mufflers.
