I'm replacing my old gate sea cocks ( disaster avoided )and went off and left the old ones at the boat without measuring the size. Since my boats a 4 hr trip right now, I'm hoping one of you know the size I need. Will continue to use bronze rwc strainers.

Any suggestions as to type and maker would be appreciated as well.

I've been a long time visitor and just finally joined because this is the only question that I cant seem to find the answer for.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know the size for your boat but I would replace with "Marlon", a very strong plastic material.

Second the idea of using Marelon. One suggestion on sizing -- if you have to guess, buy a couple of different sizes (if the marine store is near you) and return the ones that don't fit.

UPDATE: Down below, you'll see a suggestion about using bronze. As long as the bronze is isolated from the hull, it does, in fact, last quite a long time. Boat US praises marelon for thru hulls vs whatever the usual plastic devices are made of. Ordinary plastic is subject to relatively quicker degradation which means it's ok until suddenly it isn't which is not what you want for thru-hull material. There's lots of material to be found quickly on the web doing a search for through hulls/marelon/bronze sea cocks. The Boat US publication that covers the subject is "Seaworthy". Look there for some articles of interest. Marelon is a product of the Forespar company.

Marelon really? For sea cocks? I know they make great thru hulls

The old gates were bronze...

I'd stick with bronze for anything under the waterline.

Here is a source:

http://www.forespar.com/products/boat-m ... hull.shtml

Notice they recommend using epoxy to attach the scoop to the hull.

Other choice could be use the Marleon for thru hull/ and put bronze valve like a Perko or Groco, or Buck Algonquin.

1" 1/4 size
