Starboard wont go over 2000rpm under load.

Racking my brain here. What are some things to check? Just one engine giving me grief. If I push past 2000rpm on throttle doesnt bog, just wont go any faster. Swapped carb, newer DUI ignition on SBC. Checked to make sure secondary air doors were opening on carb - mechanical secondaries in base (rochester). Wondering if I have a fuel restriction? Timing seem correct at 10 BTDC. Thinking it should perform same as the Port engine - but does not!

Check that the spark advance works and the fuel filter screen at the carb inlet is clean.

I was wondering if your timing was advancing properly. Mine is mechanical advance and sometimes the weights and springs get some rust.

You can verify that yu are getting full advance with one of those new lights that allows you to dial in the advance.

I need to do that with a timing light. Not sure

One item I always suggest checking/replacing when engine "won't go over..." is the CG 11` filter found at the mouth of the carbs. If that little bugger clogs a little, the engines won't get enough fuel. Typically, though, it manifests itself as a coughing, chugging, stalling - not as you describe "just won't go". But this is food for thought

The way these indicting timing lights work is that you dial in the max advance (around 26 degrees) then rev the engine to about 4 grand. The mark should then appear to be at the zero advance point. If not, the advance isn't advancing.

Not unusual for the advance mechanism to stick in marine distributors;; and when it does, you one tends to incorrectly time the motor (at idle) with the advance partly out

A sticky anti siphon valve on the fuel tank is another possibility. Or there could be debris clogging up the dip tube.

What brand and part number of fuel filter did you use? I’m having a hard time finding fuel filters and thank you!!
