Pair of 1990 360's

Post by TinLizzy »

I am selling a pair of 1990 Chrysler 360 engines, std and opposite rotation. 1100 hours. Strong running. $4000 for the pair, $2500 each. Problem is that I'm up in the northern part of Michigan's U.P., so shipping will be troublesome. They are listed on Yooper Craigslist if you want to see pics.

Reason for selling is that I'm converting my 32 express to 454 Mercruiser Bravo drives.

Your boat will be rather stern heavy, doncha think? And the transom will need major strengthening (which, I'm sure, you are aware).

Interesting project! Love to see progress photos.

Good luck,

Jeff

Maybe this is the wrong thread, but I wonder what it would take to add an Armstrong (or similar) bracket to the transom of a 32 and mount a pair of 250 +/- hp outboards. I'm guessing for those of us with no welding skills there may be no ROI, but it might make sense if the old engines are shot and maybe the boat would perform better? Has anyone done this?

The transom on these boats is nowhere near strong enough for a twisting downward load like that.

Conversions to outboard have been done, with massive reinforcement of the transom (beams tied into the keel).

Then there's the weight balance issue to resolve. Removal of the weight of the inboards and marine trannies, and replacing them with the overhung weight of the outboards, will produce a very aft heavy boat. Not sure if trim tabs could correct it, either.
