I changed the crankcase and transmission oil in my 28 today. The starboard oil filter is tougher to reach, but no issues there. But for the first time in my life I got the filter cross threaded on the port engine. I found this out when the oil pressure did not come up and oil was pouring out the filter housing. Fortunately (based on advice I got on this site) I had one of those disposable aluminum loaf pans under the filter that caught nearly 100% of the spill. The receptacle/spout came off with the filter and it is now cross threaded so a new filter will not seal. How do I fix this? Looks like the receptacle/spout should go back on pretty easily assuming I can find a replacement.

You could try chasing the threads or look on ebay at # 351122370721

I thought I read on the old forum (and maybe confirmed on my former boat) that the piece into which the filter screws is replaceable. IF true that would be an easy solution

Second to jralbert. Take the filter to NAPA or another traditional auto parts store with knowledgeable counter staff. You can easily buy a new adapter. In the Gainesville area I use Slacks Auto. The size is very common. Had to replace mine for a different reason and it was very simple. Think it cost less than $20.
