Jeff, I guess I don't understand. Did you have to get to the back side & use an extra nut to smash the threaded rivets?

Can't find the sketch I made.
Study the right photo. That small piece of metal (4 x 2 inch) with a hole drilled in one end is the "handle". The Allen bolt goes into a nut, then through the "handle", then into the Rivet Nut.
Place the Rivet Nut, handle and bolt assembly in the hole in the deck, hold onto the "handle" so it won't turn and tighten the nut (on the Allen bolt. Sometimes you'll need to also have to stop the Allen bolt from turning until the Rivet Nut starts to seat.)
It's far easier to do than to describe!

I was looking at buying either a electric gun or a riveter that has very long handles. I am thinking that I will be installing a lot of these-what size did you install 1/4?

So from reading this, I am guessing that replacing the current screws with Stainless is a big No No?

They've always been stainless. The RIvet Nuts are aluminum with stainless bolts.

What is everyone using underneath the railings Or other items mounted to your decks? Replace the old rubber with some type of new rubber insulator or just some 4200 or 5200 sealant? I will be pulling railings to paint as well as mounting some new lights at some point in time....

I believe Jeff posted years ago that he (or perhaps it was someone else) used a few nylon washers around the bolts ( between the bottom of the rail feet and the deck). Separating the rail feet and the deck allowed water to ran through, not getting trapped and causing corrosion. The washers sealed the penetration so water leakage into the hull was prevented or at least made insignificant. Seemed pretty sensible to me.
By the time I read this, I had gone the other way, using 1/8 rubber gaskets I cut to fit myself from a large sheet of rubber or neoprene. I was not motivated to remove hardware and use the nylon washer system.
