So my rudders are seriously bent and I am trying to get them out of the boat. I have them torn down but I can't get them out of the base of the brass locking nut assembly. It will not rotate in the brass piece either. I might just cut the thing in half after seeing how rusted it is.

Before you start cutting try PB Blaster and a little heat.
And DEFINITELY don't try removing rudders while boat is in the water.

Second Bill's advice. If you have time to let is sit, use penetrating oil. You might take a chisel and lightly clean out the surface rust. This might open up a path for the oil into the joint. I'll be doing the same to our boat in a week or so. Looks like the penetrating oil should be applied now.

I sprayed a bunch of PB blaster on it today. I am gonna let it sit till tomorrow. If it doesn't budge, "OFF WITH IT'S HEAD!" The rudders are bent and really rusted out. I will get a couple new ones built from the guy in Dayton.

Hopefully with new non-metallic cutlass bearings

Those were purchased last year before I realized how much an effort this was going to be.

You need to 'work it over' with a pencil grinder using sanding drums or flap wheels. Take it right down to shinny metal, and don't worry if you take a little extra off.

I pulled mine years ago, during the winter. Not a fun job!
