Aft Deck woes

Post by balthaus »

So I finally got out to our boat today to start prepping to replace the aft deck.
I made an interesting discovery in the process.
A: The aft seating area is a PITA to remove
And the real discovery is............
One of the 2 previous owners replaced most of the aft deck by putting 1/2" ply covered in Nautolex directly on top of the OEM deck from the screen door to the aft seating area.
Not that big a deal really except for they had to modify the salon screen frames to adjust for the extra half inch of plywood.
The screen tracks are on top of the additional decking while the sliding glass doors are at the original level.
I guess I have some new screen frames in my future.
Not to mention some hole patching where the aluminum trim was because I am taking it back down to the original 5/8".

Bill,
I am going to use Versatex. It is a HDPE sheet product used in / for architectural / trim applications.

One thing we learned from using the plastic decking over the winter is to not scrimp on the trim screw length even though there's over 300 screws in the stainless deck trim there's a potential for buckling as the floor shrinks and grows throughout the year it may not be that bad with the solid sheet however just something to keep in mind
