Alcohol / Electric Stove

I have one in my 28, but I have a short somewhere in the circuit and only one of the alcohol burners will light. I was wondering if it pays to try to fix it or look for a replacement. Thoughts?

Search "kenyon alcohol stove" and a bunch of stuff comes up. The price of new ones is very high, $500-$800 so don't put it out on the curb. You will also hit spare parts sources and some documentation.

Check out Origo Alcohol stove. Have had mine for 9 years works great! Very safe non pressurized. Only very slight mod. to cutout. The two canisters hold a lot of Denatured Alcohol. I have gone two seasons with only one refill! I believe it was around 500 bucks... will last forever no parts to wear out, seals etc.

Great on the hook. Wife likes it and she is the cook... so that is what counts!

safe boating,

dave

Thanks for the advice! I might try to fix the current one this year, and hopefully get something like Dave was talking about next year when finances permit. I currently have both shafts out, waiting to bring to machine shop to see if they can be straightened. I have two new cutless bearings ordered, aligning engines with a borrowed laser aligner. Also I am trying to build myself a swim-platform, and do some bottom paint touch up before she hits the water. And then it is more wiring, etc. FUN FUN

Question, do all alcohol stoves just use denatured alcohol for fuel, or can you safely use denatured in fuel in all alcohol stoves?

I don't know about other stoves, just that the Kenyon Alcohol uses denatured.

Gotta say it: The first and ONLY time I used our alcohol stove it nearly set the curtains on fire. A storage area now resides where it used to be.

Obviously one of the pressurized units. I hated them they were bad about flare ups!!

Do they still make alcohol stoves?

Been doing research on them, seem a bit dangerous... seen a couple of horror stories on them.

Trying to find a replacement stove for a force 10 that went bad, deciding between Kenyon's electric cooktops: https://citimarinestore.com/en/442-keny ... -stovetops and replacing my current Force 10 with another Force 10: https://www.fisheriessupply.com/boat-ga ... ine-stoves

Been hearing very good things about the Kenyons. Any experience with their stove tops?

If you had to choose between both, which would you prefer? I'm also seeing Ocean Chefs on Fisheries Supply... anyone used one of these before?

Thanks for any feedback in advance.

I had replaced one of the original burners with a replacement from Kenyon. They both work, but not very good. It takes forever to boil water for a percolator. And I tried to fry up some canned potatoes, it never quite got hot enough to get them browned. I plan to replace it with an Origo, or take it out and make some extra storage and use a coleman stove in the cabin for the couple times a year it gets used.
