Good day folks,
We have 28' 1984 Marinette and need to replace the aft deck. Has anyone used the Celtec closed cell PVC for the aft deck. We are planning to put Plasdeck on top of the Celtec. We are looking for any feedback on both the Celtec and Plasdeck products.

It was about $200 for a 4 X 8 X 3/4....I did not have time to wait for a special order of 5/8.
It is NOT stronger on edge like dimensional lumber is.
Take your time and make a good template.

I did the expanded PVC for all the edges (2 3/4 sheets - $150 ea) & made the doors / center area out of 1 sheet of marine ply, penetrating epoxy first

You will need to reinforce the floor where ever the PVC is because its squishy.

I coated with 2 gal of overton's tuff coat

Some pics from my replacement - the thing was soaked with water so I couldn't remove and template it.

KNOW THAT THE DECK IS WIDER THAN THE EXPOSED DECK. I underestimated how far under the wood went. Its easily a half inch on each side.

BTW - I didn't do this and realized I should have ( a smarter member of this forum called it out when I asked about this):

Look at getting it done in aluminum. Its so cheap right now and if you do a nice template, you can get away with 3 sheets, cut with pretty simple rectangles. Then you just have to screw stuff in and put down carpet or grip.

When I saw the price per sheet and all the time I put in to get it done with wood & pvc, I was kicking myself HARD

Hey the 5th photo to the right or the last one on the first row. How is the angle held to the side? I see the floor slides under it and the wall slips behind it but I had a spot that needs to be replaced when I do my floors and was wondering if its just a90 angle welded or a different shape and screwed??

Its a welded U channel. Everything is tacked together. Thats why I'm so confused about them using wood with vinyl rather than just finishing it with aluminum

DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? after a very thorough inspection of the under side, top and edges there is No
ROT or DECAY showing in the 1/2" plywood of the 8x10 aft-deck, also the beige vinyl plywood covering shows NO holes or damage. However when you walk on it, it is deflecting, due to lack of structural support by the Alum framing under the 1/2" plywood decking.

First I wanted to rip it all out and replace it with 3/4" Celtec PVC sheet. Now after thinking it all through the thermal Expantion/Contraction of Celtec is to great for the Temp. difference where we are located N. Ontario.

Now I am thinking since the existing 1/2" Deck and vinyl cover is sound, we could install 3/4" plywood on top using adhesive and s/s screws, did should take care of the deflection.
Then cover the plywood with PlasDeck E-522 to complete the aft deck.

What do you think of this,

Thats way overkill and just makes your deck higher than the wall channel.

You could just get under and screw boards to the under side (screw down from the top) to add rigidity in the middle of the spans. Then put the plastic wood over it and you won't see it. You can do this with 2x8s or cut up ply squares and glue / screw.

Sounds like your deck has been covered properly

That is a good suggestion, I will reinforce were required and hope that the Nautolex glue holds.
