Thruster, Diver Dave?

Post by shelbygt »

Howdy. Wanna put a thruster on my transom before putting my 1962 M in the water this year. Thought I remembered seeing that someone, perhaps Diver Dave, had used a trolling motor (I think) and had success. Does anyone remember the specifics?

I remember seeing pics of it. The specs on it, I can't recall. But yes, it was mounted at the rear of the boat, possibly on a swim platform. You might want to consider this unit:

Pretty slick!

That's the one Fastjeff. Do you know what he used for a motor?

No, but I can tell you that a bow mounted one is way more effective (especially with a single screw inboard).

Saw a guy dock his trawler once and was really jealous! He just approached the dock, hit the switch, and the silly thing practically docked itself.

All kinds of good info from Diver Dennis here: https://marinetteboat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4

He lists all the specs to his boat and has a link to a pretty thorough photobucket account.

That stern thruster is a 24 volt 55lb/thrust trolling motor. I remember posts from the old forum where people asked him if it was powerful enough to have any effect. He said it actually worked very well. I'd imagine it would be very helpful for us single engine captains when the wind is blowing you around.

Thanks Jeff. Where would you mount a bow thruster? Our bows are so high out of the water.
