The paint job loosks great. Let us know about the heat retention if any with the dark color. Also, I second Dennis on wanting info on the terrific paint job ... spray, roller, inside under cover or outside covered or open, DIY, professional, how much, what problems, etc.

Hey, Dennis, you're asking questions, didn't you just go through all this with all the nice paint and trim on Surface Interval? From pics of SI it looks like you could give lessons.

Most of us are probably near a paint job or at least touch-ups. The more information you guys who have bit the bullit or trial & error can give the rest of us the better.

On question on the paint job.

I did a lot of the work myself but I had help and a shop (inside on the weekends) to work in.
I sand blasted it to bare metal.
The paint I used is Interlux Prefection. (per there insturctions)
I had to washed bare metal with eching wash. (I added this step becouse the boat sat a few days before I could get the primer on.)
Primed with Vinylux prime.
Interlux epoxy primer.(I did not have the correct nozzle and it cost me!!! I had to sand the whole boat becouse of the the rough finish it left.)
Coated with prefection
I had 2 experenced people spray. If i did, there would not look good.
Note: You have to use a fresh are hood to spray Prefection.

You can roll prefection, the paint is formulated to roll. but do not try it on a hot day a freind tried on a 90 sunny day and it did not lay out.
You may be able to put prefection over origional paint. I forgot to sanblast the cover pannel and cabnet doors on the flybridge, I scuffed and painted over old paint. It did not lift the old paint.

Below the waterline I rolled on Interprotect 2000 with Trilux 33.

We used a metal prep on the bottom too. Sherwin Williams Dual-Etch. http://www.sherwin-autom...ia/pds/English/5103.pdf (Thanks Jeff!) When it dried, we applied one thin coat of Viny-Lux® Primewash. Then, primed with 3 coats Interlux Interprotect 2000E, finished with 2 coats of Trilux 33. All done with 1/4" foam rollers. 4 years later, there a few faint spots where the primer is showing.

Awesome job! Brings a great sense of pride (and relief) when it's all done and in the water where she belongs.

Darker colors show more defects so they are harder to do correctly. Yours is absolutely beautiful!
Almost as beautiful as your crew reflected in the blue hull. Well done sir.

..."Darker colors show more defects"

You bet, hence the popular refrain: "White, white, the body shop delight. Hides very ripple in sight!"

It's the ore from which aluminum is extracted, right? I saw it right away and thought it was very cute. I was considering "Al right" for my boat, but didn't think too many folks would follow it. The next favorite was "Tin Can", since I had a relative on ASW duty in the North Atlantic during WWII. Settled on "Tin Lizzie".
